The short version
This site is a travel guide, not an authority. Nothing here is a substitute for official information or professional advice.
Before you book, budget, or travel, verify anything that matters with the official source. Travel information about Bangladesh changes often and without notice, and a guide is only ever a snapshot of what was true when it was written.
Information here goes out of date
Everything on this site is published in good faith, to the standards set out in the Editorial Policy. None of it is guaranteed to be current, complete, or correct at the moment you read it.
Things that change in Bangladesh, sometimes at short notice:
- Entry requirements — visa procedures, eligibility, fees, and the documents you are asked for.
- Access to particular areas — some parts of the country, including areas of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and certain islands and protected areas, have at times required permits, official permission, or a registered guide, and have at times been closed to visitors entirely. Rules differ for foreign nationals and change without announcement.
- Prices and fares — transport fares, entry fees, hotel rates, and the taka exchange rate.
- Schedules and opening hours — trains, launches, domestic flights, museums and sites, all of which also move around public holidays and religious festivals.
- Conditions on the ground — cyclone and monsoon flooding, road and river conditions, strikes and political events, any of which can shut a route with no warning.
If a guide here and an official source disagree, the official source is right and this site is wrong.
Check these instead of this site
For anything with consequences, go to the body that actually holds the answer:
| For | Go to |
|---|---|
| Visas and entry rules | The Bangladeshi immigration authorities (the Department of Immigration & Passports), or the Bangladeshi embassy or high commission for your country |
| Whether it is safe for you to travel | Your own government's official travel advice for Bangladesh |
| Vaccinations, malaria, and travel health | A doctor or a travel health clinic, well before you fly |
| Permits and restricted areas | The relevant Bangladeshi authority, and a reputable local operator, before you travel to the area |
| Flights, trains, and launches | The airline or operator directly |
| Customs and what you may bring in | Bangladesh Customs, and your own country's rules for the return leg |
Requirements depend on your nationality, your passport, your purpose of travel, and the date. A guide written for a general audience cannot tell you what applies to you specifically. Only the authority for your situation can.
This is not professional advice
Nothing on this site is medical, legal, immigration, financial, or security advice, and reading it does not create any professional relationship.
- Health. Guides may mention practicalities such as water, food, or heat. That is general information, not medical advice, and it takes no account of your health, your medication, or your circumstances. Consult a qualified medical professional.
- Immigration. Guides may describe how entry procedures have worked in general terms. That is not an immigration ruling and it is not a prediction of how you will be treated at the border. Immigration officers decide admission.
- Safety. Guides may describe what a place is like. That is not an assessment of risk to you, and it is not a recommendation that you go.
- Money. Any taka figures, exchange rates, or cost estimates are illustrative and were accurate only as at the date on the guide, if then.
Your decisions are your own
Travel involves risk, and how you travel is your responsibility.
- Decisions you make on the basis of this site — where you go, when, how, and with whom — are yours.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, this site accepts no liability for any loss, injury, cost, delay, denied entry, or other damage arising from the use of the information published here.
- Take out proper travel insurance, and check that it covers what you actually intend to do and the areas you intend to go to.
Other sites and businesses we mention
Where this site links to another website, that site's content is its own responsibility and is not endorsed by this one.
Where a hotel, operator, restaurant, or guide is named, naming it is not a warranty of its safety, quality, licensing, or continued existence. Satisfy yourself before you hand over money. See the Editorial Policy for how the site stays independent of the businesses it writes about.
Tell us when we are wrong
If something here is out of date or wrong — especially if you have just been there and found otherwise — please get in touch. Corrections from travellers on the ground are the fastest way this guide stays useful to the next person.
